      <image:title>ABOUT - The Unofficial Bio</image:title>
<image:caption>Caroline Tung Richmond penned her first story in the second grade—handwritten and on wide-ruled paper. She kept writing fiction throughout high school and college, but worried that a career in writing wouldn’t be practical so she decided to major in history instead, which wasn’t very practical either, but she did learn a lot about ancient Chinese dynasties. But the siren call of writing a book never went away. Caroline started seriously pursuing publication after college and, after a lot of rejection letters, her first novel The Only Thing to Fear sold to Scholastic in 2013. She is now the author of six books as well as the co-editor of the Hungry Hearts anthology and the co-author of Great or Nothing, a Little Women retelling set during WWII. In her free time … haha, what is ‘free time’? Caroline has a day job and two young kids! When she gets a minute to herself, she writes and sleeps and makes grilled cheese sandwiches. Caroline lives in Maryland with her family.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Only Thing to Fear - SUMMARY</image:title>
<image:caption>It's been nearly 80 years since the Allies lost WWII in a crushing defeat against Hitler's genetically engineered super soldiers. America has been carved up by the victors, and 16-year-old Zara lives a life of oppression in the Eastern America Territories. Under the iron rule of the Nazis, the government strives to maintain a master race, controlling everything from jobs to genetics. Despite her mixed heritage and hopeless social standing, Zara dreams of the free America she's only read about in banned books. A revolution is growing, and a rogue rebel group is plotting a deadly coup. Zara might hold the key to taking down the Führer for good, but it also might be the very thing that destroys her. Because what she has to offer the rebels is something she's spent her entire life hiding, under threat of immediate execution by the Nazis. In this action-packed, heart-stopping novel of a terrifying reality that could have been, Zara must decide just how far she'll go for freedom. Published by Scholastic Press</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Darkest Hour - SUMMARY</image:title>
<image:caption>After the Nazis killed her brother on the North African front, Lucie Blaise volunteers at the Office of Strategic Services in Washington to do her part for the war effort. Only instead of a desk job at the OSS, she is tapped to join the Clandestine Operations -- a secret espionage and sabotage organization of girls. Six months ago, Lucie was deployed to German-occupied France to gather intelligence and eliminate Nazi targets. Her current mission: Track down and interrogate a Nazi traitor about a weapon that threatens to wipe out all of Western Europe. Then find and dismantle the weapon before Hitler detonates it. But the deeper she investigates, the more danger she’s in. Because the fate of the free world hangs in the balance, and trusting the wrong person could cause millions of lives to be lost. Including her own. Published by Scholastic Press</image:caption>

      <image:title>Hungry Hearts - Summary</image:title>
<image:caption>A shy teenager attempts to express how she really feels through the confections she makes at her family’s pasteleria. A tourist from Montenegro desperately seeks a magic soup dumpling that could cure his fear of death. An aspiring chef realizes that butter and soul are the key ingredients to win a cooking competition that could win him the money to save his mother’s life. Welcome to Hungry Hearts Row, where the answers to most of life’s hard questions are kneaded, rolled, baked. Where a typical greeting is, “Have you had anything to eat?” Where magic and food and love are sometimes one and the same. Told in interconnected short stories, Hungry Hearts explores the many meanings food can take on beyond mere nourishment. It can symbolize love and despair, family and culture, belonging and home. <image:title>The Great Destroyers - Summary</image:title>
<image:caption>Jo Linden was born into a world where wars are won with giant mechanical soldiers and the nuclear bomb was never invented. Yet the Cold War still rages, and international rivalries between democracy and communism are now fought at the Pax Games, an Olympic-style competition that pits young pilots of mechas against each other. The USSR has beaten the US in nearly every game since its inception, and in the 1963 Games, the US is desperate for a win. Because it's more than just the Games at stake. Premier Khrushchev will be attending, and after, he and President Kennedy are slated to sign a peace accord stabilizing the war in Vietnam-and their volatile relationship. Raised in her father's mecha repair shop, Jo knows more than anyone about piloting. She's also the most unlikely pick for Team USA since she's a virtually unknown fighter. So when she's invited at the last minute to compete, she jumps at it. This could be the only chance to save her family's home from debt collectors. All eyes are on Jo from the moment she arrives. But as fighters start dying in the arena, it's suddenly clear that it's more than the usual Pax Games, and Jo finds herself drawn into a deadly political plot. And if she can't figure out the truth, it might mean the annihilation of everything. In a global arms race between superpowers, playing out in violent games that only humanity could create, comes a chilling story of clashing titans, ruthless competition, freedom, and the girl caught in the middle of it all. <image:caption>In the Western American Territories, Ren Cabot has lost nearly everything to Imperial Japan's rule. After the public execution of his mom for treason five years ago, Ren's family lives under constant scrutiny of the Empire, afraid that one wrong step will rip apart what remains of their family for good. But with the Second Revolutionary War starting in the Nazi-controlled Eastern American Territories, a rebellion is making its way across the land. When a chance encounter with a resistance group offers Ren an opportunity to save lives and quite possibly topple the government, he agrees to their deadly plot. But his role will lead him straight into the heart of the enemy, and if caught, death would be a much better fate than what the Empire will do to him . . . <image:title>Great or Nothing - Summary</image:title>
<image:caption>A reimagining of Little Women set in 1942, when the United States is suddenly embroiled in the second World War. This story, told from each March sister’s point of view, is one of grief, love, and self-discovery. In the fall of 1942, the United States is reeling from the attack on Pearl Harbor. While the US starts sending troops to the front, the March family of Concord, Massachusetts grieves their own enormous loss: the death of their daughter, Beth. Under the strain of their grief, Beth’s remaining sisters fracture, each going their own way with Jo nursing her wounds and building planes in Boston, Meg holding down the home front with Marmee, and Amy living a secret life as a Red Cross volunteer in London – the same city where one Mr. Theodore Laurence is stationed as an army pilot. Each March sister’s point of view is written by a separate author, three in prose and Beth’s in verse, still holding the family together from beyond the grave. Woven together, these threads tell a story of finding one’s way in a world undergoing catastrophic change</image:caption>

      <image:title>More - Summary</image:title>
<image:caption>This modern, groundbreaking YA anthology explores the complexity and beauty of interracial and LGBTQ+ relationships where differences are front and center. When people ask me what this anthology is about, I’m often tempted to give them the complicated answer: it’s about race, and about how being different from the person you love can matter but how it can also not matter, and it’s about Chinese pirate ghosts, black girl vigilantes, colonial India, a flower festival, a garden of poisons, and so, so much else. Honestly, though? I think the answer’s much simpler than that.
